ARSENAL'S CO-OWNER USMANOV NAMED BRITIAN'S RICHEST MAN

The Sunday Times has named Alisher Usmanov the richest person in Britain and Ireland. Alisher Usmanov, who owns 30% of Arsenal was ranked Number 1 with an estimated wealth of £13.3 billion. Besides Arsenal Football Club, the Russian billionaire also has interest in Metalloinvest, Russia's biggest iron ore producer, a stake in mail.ru, Russia's larger internet company and Megafon, a mobile phone operator which is listed in both the stock markets in Moscow and London.

Last year's number one Lakshmi Mittal, who had topped the list for the last eight years with a worth of £10 billion. Mr. Littal worth had taken a dip in recent years which saw his 40% stake in steelmaking giant ArcelorMittal fall in value from £28 billion to £5.9 billion, and is now ranked at number 4. 

The wealthiest British born person on the list was the eight-placed Duke of Westminister with a net-worth of £7.8 billion.

According to the list compiled by the Sunday Times, the 1000 richest people in the UK and Ireland account for over £450 billion of the total wealth of the British isles.
