PIMPING YOUR ANDROID: KEEP SCREEN ON WHILE YOU ARE USING YOUR PHONE

By

Having problems keeping the screen of your Android device on while you are reading an article? We believe we have the answer to that problem.

Last year, Samsung introduced an amazing feature with their Galaxy S3 device, the Smart Stay which tracks your eyes/face to know when you are looking at the phone. And decides when to keep on or switch off  the screen. This feature was replicated by a host of apps on the Google Play Store notably with EyeSpy . But all these apps tend to be inaccurate in telling when you are actually staring at your device and also lead to considerable power drain as they require the front facing camera to work. Even Samsung's execution of Smart Stay on the Galaxy S2 (jellybean update) tend to go wrong every now and then. The Smart Stay feature requires a well lit room to work which limits its accuracy in real life situations. I had given up on it until I came across Keep Screen On.
Keep Screen On takes a different approach to track when the device is in use by using  the built-in accelerometer or gyroscope. It doing so it can accurately tell if the user is staring at the phone based on the angle the phone is held. This makes sure that you wouldn't need to touch the screen from time to time to keep it on, and limit battery drainage as the accelerometer/gyroscope is usually in use by the android OS to switch orientation.

To effectively use this app, you might need to configure by adjusting the range as show in the photo below (the default setting didn't work for me).

Adjusting the range is quite easy, all you have to do is move the slider. To check the suitable range to set up your device. You should hold the device as you would when using your phone and adjust the blue dots at the end to coincide with the green diamond shape and then clicking on "Save and Restart button". And you are good to go

Keep Screen On comes in two variants a LITE version (ad-supported) and a Pro Version which costs $1.24.
