HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR ANDROID DEVICE IS VULNERABLE TO THE STAGEFRIGHT BUG

By

Incase you haven't heard of it already, the Stagefright bug(s) is a critical Android vulnerability which hackers can use to takeover an Android device by sending a MMS to the Android device. The Stagefright bug tahes advantage of the vulnerabilities in the Stagefright media playback engine in Android, which leaves almost all Android devices potentially at risk.

To check if your Android device is at risk of this, you should download the Stagefright Detector App from the Google Play Store. All you need to do is run the app after installing and tap on the "Begin Analysis" button to check if your device is vulnerable.

After running the app, two vulnerabilities were found in my Galaxy Note 3 running Lollipop. If your device is vulnerable there is apparently very little you can do about besides turning offf autoretrieval of MMS and hope that your device manufacturer pushes out an update to fix it.
