Google is finally making its six month old promise, at Google IO 2015, of bringing offline navigation to Android devices.
The offline feature will soon start rolling out to Android users, and users will be able to download the map of areas by searching for a city, county or country and tapping on the download, or by going to "Offline Areas" in the Google Maps menu and tapping on the "+" button.
The Google Maps app will be able to determine when users have entered areas with spotty service and switch to offline mode and back to online mode once the service has improved.
With any luck Google implementation of offline maps will be as good as if not better than that of Nokia's stellar HERE map's offering.
