Samsung recently unveiled the 2016 versions of its Galaxy A series devices, and now the Galaxy J1 budget smartphone has joined the list.
Although the Galaxy J1(2016) looks pretty much the same as last year's model, the internals have been given some bump. The resolution of the Super AMOLED display remains the same at 800 x 450 pixels but now measures 4.5 inches from 4.3 inches. The 1.2GHz dual core processor has been upgraded to a 1.3GHz quad core processor, the internal memory (8GB) and RAM (1GB) are bumped to double of the previous capacity. The battery see a small bump from 1850mAh to 2050mAh and 4G comes standard. The camera optics remains unchanged at 5MP for the main camera and 2MP for the front camera.
The Galaxy J1 (2016) is expected to retail at $135 based on its UAE price of 499AED. The prices puts it in the same category as the Moto E which is a shame when compared to the recently announced Xiaomi Redmi 3 which offers far better specs than the Galaxy J1 at even lower prices.
