Samsung has just unveiled a new tablet in India with iris scanning technology. The new tablet named the Galaxy Tab Iris which is aimed at government and corporate buyers packs an iris scanner as an additional layer of security or use it capture biometric data.
The Galaxy Tab Iris which has been certified by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) which is a government agency that collects biometric and demographic data on residents into a central database and assigns these citizens a unique 12-digit number called an Aadhaar. That means the Tab Iris will allow government employees to quickly confirm the identity of individuals for secure banking, passport services, healthcare, education, and more.
The specifications of the Galaxy Tab are a bit modest packing a 1.2GHz quadcore processor, 1.5GB RAM, 7 inch display with a 1280 x 600 resolution, 5MP Rear camera, 8GB internal storage with a microSD slot for expansion and a 3G modem. The Galaxy Tab Iris is expected to retail for an equivalent of $200 in India.
