According to reports from Wall Street Journal, The world's largest social network is planning to introduce hashtags in it's news feed as a way of promoting and tracking group conversations.

The use of hashtags in status updates was made popular by Twitter, and has found its way into other social networks such as Instagram, Flicker, Google+. Hashtags has become the de facto way of tracking similar conversations,Trends and even as a way of promoting and advertising goods and services.(eg #MyOgaAtTheTop,#PopeFrancis,).

Facebook has known to borrow some features from it's competitors in the time past, by introducing the '@' sign as a way of tagging people in status updates and comments, or it's subscriber list which mirrors the twitter 'followers' function.
