Samsung unveils the Gear S2 classic 3G, first smartwatch with an eSIM

Samsung has announced a new variant of its Gear S2 classic with 3G connectivity which also happens to be the first smartwatch to feature a eSIM or a virtual SIM. The eSIM does away with the traditional SIM with a programmable SIM allowing customers to switch carriers without having to visit a store or buy a new SIM card.
However it should be noted that the Gear S2 classic 3G isn't the first device to sport an eSIM, as the Apple iPad Air 2 also supports this standard, although Apple chooses to call it the Apple SIM and it doesn't quite conform to the GSMA standards. Other OEMs such as LG, Hauwei and Microsoft have all signed up to use the GSMA eSIM.
