Samsung unveils the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge...A touch of refinement

Samsung just revealed its new Next Big Thing , The Galaxy S7 and The Galaxy S7 edge which basically confirms all of the rumors about it. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is basically the Galaxy S6 with some refinements which is a good thing. With the Galaxy S7, Samsung is making amends with its core fans and is bringing back some of the features from the Galaxy S5 that were dropped in the Galaxy S7 such as the microSD and waterproofing.

The Galaxy S7 still sports a 5.1 inch 2K (2560 x 1440 pixels) Super AMOLED display, while the Galaxy S7 edge on the other now has 5.5 inch 2K (2560 x 1440 pixels) Super AMOLED display. The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge would powered by either Samsung's 2.4 GHz octa-core Exynos or Qualcomm's Snapdragon 2.2 GHz quadcore processor. The battery capacity has been increased to 3000mAh and 3600mAh for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge respectively.  The memory is pretty much unchanged from the Galaxy S6 at 4GB RAM and 32GB internal memory. The megapixel count of the main camera optics has been reduced from 16MP to 12MP and uses Samsung's inhouse BRITECELL which promises overall imaging quality, while front (selfie) camera remains unchanged at 5MP.

The waterproof  feature from the Galaxy S5 makes a return and is more refined doing away with the plastic flaps. The IP68 certifed Galaxy S7 and S7 edge can survive being immersed in water.

It wouldn't be a Samsung device if there are no new software additon to speak of, Samsung is introducing an Always On display feature to the Galaxy and S7 edge. The Always On displays keeps parts of the AMOLED display permanently to show Time, Date and notifications. More functionality has been added to the Edge Function allowing it to function as a ruler, compass, torch and third party widgets in addition to being a way of quickly accessing contacts and favourite apps.

The Pricing for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge is yet to revealed but is likely to cost the same as the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge at launch, which puts it around $600 and $700 respectively.  Preorders of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge comes with a free Gear VR.
